The chain

  1. Raw text
  2. Broken into pages & panels
  3. Author edits
  4. Per-panel prompt & generation, always approved
  5. Page, cover, finished issue

The continuity engine

Three parts that keep a character the same character, panel after panel.

Character canon (model sheet)

The character from the front, side and back, and in close-up on the face. Full-body shots too. Photos and essential character traits pulled from the screenplay, which the creator can edit and extend.

Guaranteed reference selection

Previously every reference went out in one pile — with two characters and a few mood images that meant 16 images, and the lead’s face landed at the end of the list. The model averaged, and identity blurred. Now every character’s face is guaranteed to go out; the rest rotate with category caps. And it never fails silently: if a character has no face on the model sheet, a warning sits above the generate button.

Character state on a timeline

A costume change is one entry, not a hundred panels rewritten — and this is exactly what receives TEXTUS’s change-phases.

Lettering and visuals

Speech-bubble tail follows the speaker

The tail does not point at a coordinate — it points at the character. Move the bubble, the tail stays on the speaker.

Custom fonts (TTF/OTF)

For bubbles and covers.

SFX typography

A sound effect is not italic text — it is a curved, plastic, outlined drawing. Geometry, not a filter, because filters are unreliable at export.

Mask tools

Brush and eraser, plus lasso, magic wand and soft edge.

Cover designer at PFPP-level depth

Pattern, texture, 14 fonts, block shapes, text shadow, spine warning with trim tolerance, 100–600% zoom, a saveable series template.

Guided reading view

Panel-by-panel preview for the mobile edition. The reading order is the author’s, not a geometry guess — comics are full of deliberate exceptions.

The craft rules

Page dramaturgy (recto/verso, page-turn reveals) · panel transitions per McCloud, with monotony warnings · readability checks and speech-bubble zones sized to the longest language, before generation even runs · layout templates · entity extraction from the manuscript, no AI required.

Provider independence

The text AI switches between OpenAI and Claude with one setting; the image model and its provider are a separate choice. A price change or an outage does not stop the product in the middle of a 150-page volume.

Three languages: English, Hungarian, German

German is deliberate: roughly 30% longer than English, the worst case for bubble overflow — an honest stress test. French, Spanish and Italian versions are planned, as well as Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

Honestly, where it stands

A fresh build for Mac and Windows (2026-08-10), 724 tests, the comics-craft layer, guaranteed face continuity, SFX, mask tools, guided view, cover designer, provider switching. Entity intake and the shared shelf are done. Still ahead: a clean-machine release gate, code signing, a 3D mannequin, writing the shelf receipt, and a separate pass for CJK.

From the external audit

„Comic Studio AI Pro is an exceptionally high-quality piece of software, built on thoughtful and rigorous engineering principles. With stable test coverage (344/344 green tests) and publisher-grade preflight/CMYK/PDF-X workflows in place, the project is very close to becoming a market-ready 1.0 product.”
